Global Citizen Consultation on Climate Change Launched on March 23 at the Danish Parliament

On March 23, national partners of the first global citizen consultation ever - World Wide Views on Global Warming (WWViews) - will meet for the first time. 75 national partners in 46 countries from all continents of the world have joined WWViews in our attempt to give citizens the opportunity to influence the COP15 negotiations and thereby the future of global climate policy. A week from now those 75 partners will arrive in Copenhagen on the occasion of the project launch and will be discussing democracy, citizen consultation, and climate change for three days.

Invitation to Project Launch at the Danish Parliament

On March 23, 2 PM, the project is launched officially at the Danish Parliament in Copenhagen with the presence of most of our national partners from all over the world. Mr. Sten Gade, MP and Chairman of the Environment and Regional Planning Committee, will welcome them and their ambassadors, and members of Parliament.

In this context national partners will attend the Project Launch Seminar 23 March - 25 March here in Copenhagen. At the seminar not only will they themselves have a foretaste of what citizens will go through at WWViews meetings on September 26, they will also experience some of the difficulties that may arise when 46 nations with 46 national histories have to create a common ground across continents, cultures, and development, as the delegates at the COP15 will experience.

About WWViews

WWViews is initiated and organized by The Danish Board of Technology and The Danish Cultural Institute. Central to the project are the citizen consultations on September 26, 2009, in 46 countries all over the world. Citizens will deliberate and vote on some of the questions negotiated at the COP15 from the rationale that citizens of the world have to live with global warming and future climate policy, which is why they should be consulted before political decision-makers negotiate at the COP15.

Among others WWViews is supported by the UNDP and Ms Connie Hedegaard, Danish Minister of Climate and Energy, host of COP15, and ambassador for WWViews.
